Nervous Nellies Jams and Jellies

Buy at Art.com Nervous Nellie's Jams and Jellies is set in a quaint little white house on the coast of Maine. Owned by Anne Beerits, Nervous Nellies makes about 350 jars of jam each day, cooking, pouring, jarring and labeling everything by hand. The high tech factory is a tiny clapboard house that doubles as Peter Beerit's sculpture gallery.

From May to October the Mountainside Cafe serves up steaming coffee, flavorful tea, and homemade scones with the delicious jams that give Nervous Nellies its name. The cafe is set with fresh flowers, colorfully painted tables, whimsical sculptures, and overlooks a scenic Maine apple orchard.

The cafe and kitchen are separated by a deck where visitors will be delighted with more sculptures and cheerful flower boxes. There on the deck, a big red lobster plays checkers with a blue tuna while a friendly 7-foot long alligator watches.

The cafe is just a short walk across the deck from the kitchen where visitors can watch the jams and jellies being made and taste samples of all the flavors.

Nervous Nellies has a wide variety of flavors and styles to choose from. Blueberry Preserves, loaded with blueberries picked right on the coast of Maine, is their best seller, but a close second is Blue Razz Conserve. Blue Razz is a tangy mix of blueberries and raspberries that melts in your mouth and tastes wonderful on just about anything.

If hot and spicy is more to your liking, Nervous Nellies has an amazing Hot Tomato Chutney. Anne warned me that it is their most addictive flavor - and she was right! It is a decadent blend of tomatoes, pineapples, peaches, and onions, and it has just enough kick to put a spring in your step and have you hungering for more.

Nervous Nellies Jams and Jellies ships jam from Maine to all over the United States via UPS and they will package gifts for any occasion. Their special holiday gift boxes are tied with a red and white gingham ribbon and topped with a generous sprig of fresh, fragrant balsam.

If you will be making a trip up the Maine coast this summer, be sure to visit the beautiful Deer Isle. And while you're there, pay a visit to Anne Beerits in her inviting, clapboard jelly kitchen.
