Downeast is a nautical term. Fisherman from Boston used to refer to the Maine coast as downeast because sailing vessels had to travel downwind to go east on the prevailing westerly winds. In Maine, downeast refers to the area from Penobscot Bay eastward. Acadia is home to Bar Harbor, Mount Desert Island, and not only Maine's most beautiful coastline, but some of the most beautiful coastline in the world. The dining in this area is special, just like the view.
