Beaches near Portland, Maine

Buy at Art.com Ferry Beach, Scarborough

Ferry Beach is a sheltered beach with 2,640 feet of beach and 2 acres of land. It is a remote beach with access via paths through the sand dunes, and no lifeguards or running water.

Parking is available for about 100 cars and also available are picnic tables, benches, a boat ramp, and recently updated restroom facilities, showers and portable restrooms. There is a fee.

East End Beach, Portland

This is a rocky beach with wonderful views of Casco Bay. There are no lifeguards, but it has picnic tables, changing rooms, restrooms and parking for 70 cars.

Willard Beach, South Portland

Willard is a sandy beach with gentle surf, which is appealing to families. Parking is available for 75 cars; rest-rooms are available and lifeguards are on duty.

Higgins Beach, Scarborough

Higgins is popular with surfers and teenagers because of its sandy beach and large waves. Parking is available for 120 cars, but be careful, as there is no lifeguard on duty.

Scarborough Beach State Park, Scarborough

This sandy beach has dunes, warm water and good surf. Ample parking is available for 500 cars. Lifeguards are on duty, and restrooms and bike racks are available. Connects with Higgins Beach.

Pine Point Beach, Scarborough

Pine Point is another large sandy beach that is popular with families. It connects with Old Orchard Beach and parking available. The Fifth Street entrance has snack bar and restrooms.

Crescent Beach State Park, Cape Elizabeth

Crescent beach is so named because the top of the "crescent is sandy, while it grows more rocky toward the water. It is popular with families, much due to its gentle surf. It boasts a snack bar, picnic tables, bike racks, restrooms, and lifeguards. Plenty of parking is available. Entrance fees are 50 cents for age 5 to 11 and $2.50 for ages 12 to 64. Two Lights State Park, Cape Elizabeth

Two Lights Park is on a former WWII coastal defense installation. With beautiful views of Casco Bay, Two Lights offers picnic tables, grills, and a sheltered site for large groups by reservation. Open all year with an entry fee. For more information call (207)799-5871.

Wolfe's Neck Farm, Freeport

Wolfe's Neck Farm is a 600-acre non-profit demonstration farm on Casco Bay in Freeport, and is dedicated to promoting sustainable agriculture, environmental literacy, and healthy living. The farm is open to the public at no charge. Visitors can explore the barns and gardens, hike wooded trails, and access Casco Bay for canoeing and kayaking. (207) 865-4469. Wolfe's Neck Woods State Park, Freeport

This beautiful coastal preserve offers hiking through the woods along Casco Bay and the Harraseeket River. There are picnic tables, grills, bathrooms and is also wheelchair accessible. Open Memorial Day through Labor Day. Contact information: (207)865-4465.
