| Beaches in Midcoast Maine
Popham Beach State Park, PhippsburgPopham Beach is a beautiful sandy beach with surf that depends much on the weather conditions. A sandbar exposed at low tide becomes a path to a small island off the beach.Life guards are on duty and Fort Popham is only a couple of miles away. Parking is available for 400 cars but the beach is closed to cars after the lot is full. Open April 15 - October 30. Fees are $2.00/person, ages 12 and up. Birch Point State Park, Owls Head Birch Point offers views of Penobscot Bay with a crescent-shaped sandy beach for sunning and swimming. There are no lifeguards. Open Memorial Day through Labor Day. Contact information: (207) 941-4014. _____________________________________
Camden Hills State Park, Camden If you're up for a bit of a hike, the trail up Mount Megunticook offers panoramic views of Camden Harbor and Penobscot Bay. Megunticook is the highest of the Camden Hills and offers campsites, restrooms, and salt and freshwater beaches nearby. Open May 15 through October 15. Damariscotta Lake State Park, Jefferson This state park offers a fine sandy beach and swimming with lifeguards on duty. There is a shelter for large groups and picnic tables and grills. Contact information: (207)941-4014. _____________________________________
Lake St. George State Park, Liberty Swimming is available and lifeguards are on duty in this "crystal clear" lake. Restrooms, campsites, hiking, fishing and boat and canoe rentals also available. Moose Point State Park, Searsport Moose Point has a small beach and swimming area with a lifeguard, and spectacular views of Penobscot Bay. Hiking trails are nearby. Open Memorial Day through Labor Day. Contact information: (207)582-2813. _____________________________________
Reid State Park, Georgetown Located 14 miles from Route 1 in Woolwich on Route 127, Reid State Park has a long, sandy beach with rocky spots, inlets, nooks, crannies and dunes. Surf ranges from gentle to very large swells depending on the weather. Parking is available for 1,000 cars. If lot is full, park officials use a "one car out, one car in" policy. Two snack bars. Shower facilities, toilets and changing rooms are available, and lifeguards are on duty. The day-use fee is $2.50 per person older than age 12. Open all year. Swan Lake State Park, Swanville Swan Lake offers picnic facilities, a playground and group shelter. There is a swimming area with lifeguards. For large gatherings, a private group shelter (fee charged) equipped with volleyball, horseshoes and a handicapped accessible toilet are available. Open Memorial Day through Labor Day.
